Agro Micro Investments has a long history behind. Starting from Agro Mart Foundation which was founded by Mrs. Beula Munasinghe in the year 1989 together with Mr. S.W. Kiriarachchi the present Chairman of Agro Micro Investments and others started Micro Finance in a small way as a special project in 1994. In the year 2000 as an independent company was formed to continue the Microfinance activity which was named Agro Mart Micro Finance as a guarantee association registered under the companies act bearing Registration no: NA 859. The name of the company was later changed to Agro Micro Finance and re-registered bearing no GA 102.
In the year 2001 the assets and liabilities of the Micro Finance sector were transferred to this independent company to continue operations independently. At this stage, AMF was operating in 7 districts viz. Kurunegala, Puttalam(Chilaw), Galle, Matara, Hambanthota (Ambalanthota), Ampara & Monaragala with a branch in each district.
2013 a public company was incorporated in the name of Janamithu Lanka Limited bearing Registration no PB 5114 after converting the guarantee association to a guarantee limited company. AMF was able to transfer the net Assets to Janamithu Lanka in August 2014. And Started Micro Finance Operations. The name of Janamithu Lanka Limited was changed its name to Agro Micro Investments on 16th February 2017
